Note to reader: This is a bed and breakfast I stayed at during my 2010 Quebec/Maritime trip with a friend. As usual, I didn’t advise the hosts what I was up to until after I paid. I appreciate your support of the continuation of my research by letting the hosts know you read my review of their bed and breakfast on this bbontario website. Many thanks! Janette Higgins
From out front, Stones Corner Bed and Breakfast appears rather unassuming. Not much by way of gardens and a small scrubby lawn. However, there were Adirondack chairs on the front porch along with a wood stack and by the time we were inside we'd finished with the tentative looks. Sisters Charlene and Jo-anne own the bed and breakfast and share the responsibilites for running it. We were shown our room, The Firefly, and by now I was grinning. It was large, fresh and airy with a new en suite bathroom. The other two rooms are spacious as well. The room called Serenity has a leg up because it has a sitting area with TV.
Charlene had shown us the bottomless cookie jar in the kitchen and the makings for a cup of tea so after we'd parked our luggage, we took tea on the balcony off the kitchen which looks over water to a paper mill. (The house is deceptively built down a hill at the back so once you're in the kitchen you're quite high up.) I know that some visitors to Pictou complain about the sulphur smell from the mill. Maybe at times, but not when we were there. We were staying in Pictou, as do many, because we wanted to catch the ferry to PEI the next day. Stones Corners was perfect. On a quiet street, not far from downtown and ten minutes from the ferry.
Next morning Charlene sent us off with full tummies. Breakfast was a cheese and potato frittata and some homebaked muffins. Plus the best OJ we had on the trip. Turns out it was one of my old faves; Old South. Only fresh-squeezed is better IMHO.
