Note to reader: This is a bed and breakfast I stayed at during my 2010 Quebec/Maritime trip with a friend. As usual, I didn’t advise the hosts what I was up to until after I paid. I appreciate your support of the continuation of my research by letting the hosts know you read my review of their bed and breakfast on this bbontario website. Many thanks! Janette Higgins
I just had another look at the photo I used for this review of Peggy's Cove Bed and Breakfast. I took it from our private deck as we enjoyed a glass of wine and watched the sun go down. My camera is nothing special but to me this photo looks like a painting. Methinks it's hard to get a bad photo at Peggy's Cove. It's all about the light and the views. And of course that's why tourists come by the busload.
Now this is a tiny burg with a big welcome centre and even bigger parking lot for all the cars and buses that, by mid morning, are disgorging eager, rock-clambering, photo-taking sightseers. By late afternoon peace prevails once again. It's the daily cycle from June through September. We'd opted to stay overnight at Peggy's Cove Bed and Breakfast and it turned out to be a good decision.
During the evening of our arrival and next morning before the onslaught, the cove cast its spell and it was apparent why Peggy's Cove became so popular. And if you stay for a couple of nights you can easily opt out of the daytime madness and stick around this off-the-beaten-tourist-path B&B for a little R&R.
On arrival at Peggy's Cove Bed and Breakfast, we'd pulled in to find host Yumiko Lyon working in the pristine gardens set amongst the rocks. Then husband Dana showed up and took us to our second floor room which is one of four off the guest lounge area. The fifth room is on the main floor with a private entrance and huge private deck. By the way, we'd picked up takeout in Chester, suspecting there wasn't much of a restaurant scene in Peggy's Cove. We were right. The comfortably furnished deck was a perfect spot for our supper.
Next morning at breakfast we and the other guests sat on stools lined up at a breakfast bar facing the water while Dana and Yumiko served up a full breakfast. After we visited some of the local artists and craftspeople who had set up for the summer to ride the wave. Suddenly the spell was broken. The invasion had begun.
