Note 1 to reader: Every Ontario bed and breakfast receives my consideration. I travel incognito, pay where I stay and write reviews of the top 5%. Here is a London, Ontario bed and breakfast I recommend. Janette Higgins

Beautifully maintained gardens out front were the first clue that London’s A ParkView Bed and Breakfast was going to be a winner. As was the leafy central London neighbourhood; a pleasant mix of older and newer homes. Hence it was that I waited with anticipation until host Aileen Parsons opened the door. I took one look at Aileen’s bright-eyed smile and had a quick glance around. Bingo! I knew I was definitely on to something good. And, it turns out, it gets better. A ParkView Bed and Breakfast offers one of the best values on my site.

Aileen has a decorator's eye and the two guest bedrooms and self-contained guest suite, are all tastefully outfitted. The two guest bedrooms and their guest lounge, are located on the main floor at the front of the house with a French door separating the guest area from Aileen and (husband) Doug’s quarters. To the right as you enter, the lounge is comfortably furnished, has a TV and fireplace, and offers a guest refreshment area with microwave, bar fridge and complimentary tea, coffee, fruit, snacks and soft drinks. I checked first, and the easygoing Aileen had no problem with me eating my dinner leftovers in the living room. I sat on the creamy white sofa scarfing the last of the tasty octopus salad from Bertoldi’s Restaurant and observed that while her décor and housekeeping standards are very high she’s not uptight about it. I liked that.

One cheery white bedroom, with spritzes of yellow and green, is to the left of the front foyer and along a short hall. Its private-use full bathroom is around the corner off the central hall. I chose the serene, larger room with en suite bathroom and access to a small sunporch. It looks out over the back gardens. As for the suite, it’s at ground level with a private entrance. You’ll have a complete one-bedroom apartment, beautifully furnished, complete with its own private patio. It’s also available for short-term stays.

The pleasant residential location can't be beat. To get to the Richmond Row shopping area, simply walk to the end of the Parsons’ back garden, then through the adjacent park, and you’ll be there in 10 minutes. Seven minutes walking in the other direction takes you to the hospital and the University of Western Ontario.

Next morning breakfast is in the large open concept host living space at the back of the house. As the only guest I sat near the kitchen looking out over the garden; more guests and yours may be in the elegant dining room. I chatted with the amiable Aileen as I ate my breakfast of OJ, fresh fruit and perfectly poached eggs with ham and toasted malt bread. The plate was garnished with a tomato slice sprinkled with feta. Lemon scones with home-make strawberry freezer jam were the perfect finish.

Note 2 to reader: I appreciate your support of the continuation of my research by letting Aileen and Doug know you read my review of their bed and breakfast on this bbontario website. Many thanks! Janette Higgins, Travel Writer
