Note 1 to reader: Every Ontario bed and breakfast receives my consideration. I travel incognito, pay where I stay and write reviews of the top 5%. Here is a bed and breakfast I recommend in Brighton near Presqu’isle Provincial Park on Lake Ontario. Janette Higgins
There’s a sense of space and calm at Brighton’s Pine Breeze Bed and Breakfast. Large windows let in lots of light and offer views from its hilltop setting which overlook apple orchards, the town of Brighton and Lake Ontario’s Presqu’isle Provincial Park famed for its nature trails and sandy beaches. Of course birding enthusiasts know Brighton as one of the best spots for watching migrating birds. This is also a perfect spot for those touring with bicycles and motorcycles. The 3-car garage has plenty of space to safely store any special mode of transport even your precious antique touring car.
Moving from Toronto, host Marylou Sanchez picked Brighton, just south of Highway 401, because she had a sense of being home. It is she who sets the airy, calming tone. You feel the restful atmosphere when you walk in and are welcomed by Marylou’s engaging smile. She’ll offer you a pair of slippers (bring indoor shoes with support if you have bad feet) and then show you around. To the right of the entrance there’s a cosy guest sitting room with a large selection of movies for the guestrooms’ DVD players. Further on to the right is a games room complete with a billiards table. Marylou may even have snooker balls by the time you’re there. There’s also a telescope to check out Lake Ontario far below.
The rooms are all on the main floor so if you have a mobility impairment this is a handy bed and breakfast to know about. They’re in a wing to your left and each room is beautifully decorated in a a spare but inviting style. The largest is the Aurora Borealis Room with its king size bed, en suite bathroom, in-room Whirlpool tub and walkout to the backyard. The other three rooms all have queen size beds. Two have en suite bathrooms and one has a private-use bathroom right across the hall.
Next morning Marylou serves a full and generous breakfast. There’s toast, yogurt, two types of fruit juice (sometimes pomegranate), a cheese selection, a nuts and seeds tray, a 7-grain cereal, plates of pastries, and a fruit plate with at least 4 different types of fresh fruit. Oh. yes, and then there’s a main dish. Whew! One day you might have eggs Benedict, another day spinach and feta crepes. Or, if you play your cards right, you just might have a Mexican inspired treat such as eggs with salsa or tamales. Carumba!
Note 2 to reader: I appreciate your support of the continuation of my research by letting the hosts know you read my review of their bed and breakfast on this bbontario website. Many thanks! Janette Higgins, Travel Writer
