To Ontario Bed and Breakfast Hosts

If you're interested in being considered for review in my Ontario bed and breakfast online directory please read what follows, then complete the Research Screening Form below. The first thing to understand is that this is not about advertising. I'm a travel writer, not an advertising salesperson. I write for the consumer and that's why travellers trust this site and why the bed and breakfasts I've reviewed get lots of bookings.

I personally inspect countless Ontario bed & breakfast places, most often incognito, and winnow those down to a select few. I always pay for my stay so I'm not beholden to hosts. In 1988, when I first published the book that preceded this website, (The Best Places to Bed and Breakfast in Ontario), my research involved several hundred Ontario bed and breakfasts. Now there are thousands. I am only one person, so I do strongly encourage you to let me know about your B&B. Here's what I look for when I do my inspections:
  • Your bed and breakfast displays tasteful style, inside and out. My research shows that ambiance is the primary reason travellers seek out my advice. Older homes with character and contemporary homes with distinctive architectural features, in interesting settings, may well fill the bill.

  • Your bed and breakfast offers privacy. There's a common area for guests only. You offer at least some bedrooms with private bathrooms - a necessity as aging boomers up the ante on privacy.

  • You love to cook and it's reflected in your breakfasts. My book's fans told me this was another prime reason they liked to travel B&B. So what I look for is a breakfast that causes serious lip-smacking. I prefer places that offer full breakfasts but continental with panache will pass muster.

  • You offer good value. This doesn't mean cheap. It's important to me, though, that your rates fairly reflect what's on offer.

  • You're located in a place people like to visit. For example, your community may offer a great getaway for weary Torontonians. It may be a tourist attraction. It may offer theatre, pastoral countryside or something of historical interest. Whatever it is, there has to be a good reason for people to come. And there needs to be at least one good restaurant close by.

  • Above all your place is clean and neat. Absolutely critical.
Of course, no bed & breakfast is going to score a perfect 10 on each of the above criteria. It will be the total package that sets you apart. If, after ploughing through the above, you feel your bed & breakfast merits my consideration, please complete the following:
